Welcome to Marc Evers's website. I work as an independent coach, trainer, consultant in the field of software development. Through my company Piecemeal Growth, I offer workshops, training, and coaching in the field of systems thinking, agile software development, and personal growth.

I work from a vision on software development, based on the Agile Manifesto. Software development is a continuous process, where on one side, a dialogue with the customer takes place on the "what" of the software, and on the other side, the software (design, code) is continuously extended, adapted, improved. Software complexity has to be reduced continuously.

Developing incrementally and iteratively in short cycles is the basis for steering software development, manage risks, and deliver valuable software. The distinction between development and maintenance fades: software is in maintenance from the start of the project. Maintainability is not a "nice to have", but an essential thing. Test driven development and refactoring are important techniques to keep software well-maintained.

I help software developers, customers, and project managers to deliver software more efficiently and effectively, with e.g. Extreme Programming and retrospectives. Furthermore, I develop software, co-organize workshops and conferences, and write articles. I get knowledge and experience not only from projects, but also from conferences and books.

I am part of a network of software development coaches who apply systems thinking in their work. Furthermore, I actively particiapte in the Dutch Extreme Programming users group XP-NL.
